The performance and quality of roller generally depend on its chemical  and manufacturing way, and can be evaluated by its organization, physical and mechanical properties and the type of residual stress existing inside the roll (see roll test).

The wire mill has a roughing mill stand and an intermediate rack similar to a small section mill. Compared with the two section rolling mill, these mills are generally designed for rolling up to 4 lines at the same time. However, the current development trend is single line high-speed rolling.
